HELLO KITTY

A friend just sent me this to brighten my day...and Yours!

moz-screenshot-5 FLY ME !!!!!!

Sometimes the best of plans...

Sometimes the best of plans just don't work out!
I had four places to go today-
First was the garage- they had to get a part, they got the part, but the fluid was too expensive.
SO- go to my friends house & pick up something of mine, and blueberries from Maine!
My friend tells me it is ok to use the cheaper fluid-So, I go back & tell them to do it anyways. Another part comes in, the guy leaves, IT is the wrong part! Well, it has been three and a half hours and the shop owner and I have HAD it. So I go to my third project- cleaning up a computer=that took 15min. Leave with tomatoes, parsley.
Forth place I get to & no one is there! I dig around my car for a cell number & he says he emailed me saying 6pm!
Confused Forget it... I went home.
Just because I had it all out on paper nice & neat didn't mean a thing- LOL!!!Wink

The Price of Living Here

I found out yesterday that my dear neighbor lady, the one who gave Myst that toy, passed away suddenly! She and her husband were married for 70 years and were still happy. He will not be able to live alone, being deaf and all--he was the one that was always messing up the tv and I would go over & fix it... Needless to say, I am shocked and saddened but I guess I have to get used to it being in a joint where everyone is in their eighties. I am glad I got to spend lunch with her on the day of the block party.
My dad called yesterday speaking of "when I die" he doesn't want embalment,no funeral, DNR, etc... I listened and told him to get it in writing... and listened some more.... We agreed that "we" are not our bodies.
Then I spoke with my mom who as we were speaking 'discovered' a notation on her calendar of a doctor appointment I had written. She 'didn't appreciate' that I had done that. I told her it was for a memory loss doctor  and that they would be able to prescribe medicine for it. She said she had read bad things about that medication & wouldn't take it.
Is it any wonder I could NOT sleep last night?
Jadey think of good things.... ok, I bought a brand new speedstream 5100 DSL modem for $5... He had TWO and I didn't think until later I should have bought both in case mine dies!! So I am going back thursday, he is holding it for me. Tomorrow I am getting my transmission flushed & a screw pulled from my tire I discovered yesterday.... I haven't gone out to see if my tire is flat. Friday I hopefully get my sister back online and I have an appointment with a senior advisor/advocate to ask what the steps are for mom's care & finances.
 Yawwwn! Sleepy
OH another good thing.... I lowered my internet speed & changed my phone service BEFORE my contract ended-HA! I don't even notice any change in the internet!

Working on the mac

So, I have been driving over to my sister's to figure out her internet connection.
Her modem got fried from lightning.
She bought another one & it didn't work--- ATT said that the port on the computer must have fried so I bought a USB/NIC connecter-
But, I went home & found that that wasn't necessarily the problem.
It is a pain since there is no connection over there so I cannot get online until I get home to look stuff up!
Anyways, she had bought a modem, but it cannot be plugged directly into her DSL phone line for ATT to work.
She has to bring that back. I found out a couple brand names that CAN from a couple phone calls to ATT. One woman was nice enough to tell me three brands to look for. So... back home I am looking on the internet for a deal and found one on craigslist in the next town over for $5--reg.49
I will buy that tomorrow & hook it up the next day--- Hopefully the port wasn't fried even though the connector was $25. Hopefully it can be sold.
This post is pretty confusing, but that has been My weekend!!!
All in all I am HUGELY thankful I am available to help her AND the woman who has the husband with Alzheimers now calls me her "Guru" and I am going over thursday to help her Nerd....... for money...even better Wink

whew!

what a day!
My sister's modem got zapped by lightning and when she plugged in a new one it didn't work.
So I went over & after some testing decided that the ethernet port on the Mac got fried also...
we drove to a computer place & he suggested that instead of replacing the motherboard we could try to find an adapter that would convert ethernet to usb. Problem is that there are lots of those around but not compatable with mac computers....
Then we went to the wireless phone store & looked into putting me onto her family plan. I am now on her plan for $12 a month and I have a very cool new LG phone. Now I can get rid of my longdistance which is about to expire for my home phone!
When I got home I found her a mac compatible usb/ethernet adapter online & sent for it.
*
Myst is pawing at me & begging for play since she didn;t get to go out-so I'll see ya later!

Anniversary of My Life

One Year ago on the twenty third of August

I slept for the first time in my own place.

Thank you for giving me the strength to walk out the door- and to virtually hold my hand through the tears & fear that followed.

It has been a psychological roller-coaster for me, up & down...But never a regret. Every night I am thankful for my bed,a roof over my head, and a wonderful shower. I am experiencing for the first time in my life the joy of not being anyone but myself. I'm not anyone much yet..,but the oldie ladies like me here-as I hear them tell eachother-"she's such a nice girl, she gave her neighbor a tv,she's pretty, she looks alittle lonely, she's so nice!"....

Anyways, I celebrated by getting another hole in my head- er, in my ear. And a coffee mug with the Island of Myst on it. And so, life on this little island of mine continues.....

Another Drink Please....

Went to my sister's to feed the kitties & water the plants
then-
I drove mom to Old Saybrook dmv to get her a photo I.D. today.
It's a long drive followed by standing in long lines.
First I had mom not wanting to go because she didn't feel the need for it-
then standing in a line to get the form to fill out & then get into the next line to... well,
after an hour we got up there & the lady said mom HAD a valid drivers license....I said it wasn't to be found-
so we got a renewal that said "non driver" for free. She had her picture taken and (of course) hated it.
A couple hours later I took her to the grocery store to make sure she had a bunch of frozen dinners.
She kept looking through her purse trying to find the new ID...unsuccessfully. I knew it was in there but I
just couldn;t deal with it anymore. When we got back I showed her that it was in the 'window'
of her wallet. Her disgust at the picture and motion to throw it out warned me that the next time I visit
it will most likely have "disappeared"........
I am not even going into what I discover has been 'undone' of my bookwork everytime I get there.

Heading to the cupboard for another drink to wash the day away....

Yesterdays Todays Tomorrow.

Another busy week gone, another one on the way...

The weather here has been spectacular, low humidity and afternoon thunderstorms. Ran around with mom one day, rested the next, then drove an hour to see dad. He gave me a set of toy soldiers he got in 1929 and a photo of him as a kid with them. Also a pile of science and nature magazines which I have been devouring. Myst and I have taken to sitting on a park bench after our evening walk-She is SO brave! I have her bag sitting there for her to jump into incase she gets scared, but cars & people go by and she just lies there calmly watching them walk by! Yesterday I thought for sure she would freak (because I did) when this guy stopped & petted her- she got into her carrier as he did this, and came right back out when he left-wow!

There is a community garden here & I hate seeing everything going to waste! Corn just hanging there, broccoli bolting, tons of tomatoes and squash... I just want to jump the fence & eat!! Speaking of eating, I just demolished a plate of eggs with spinach, chopped up frozen hashbrown and toast- NOM NOMNOM!!!

So, this week I am taking care of my sister's cats. She has an insane yard full of flowers so I hope to remember my camera. My mother has taken to calling over & over to ask the same question "are you coming over?" and last night she called at 10:45--I don't even remember what that was about-she didn't know it was so late, WAY past her bedtime. Her bloodwork came back PERFECT. She is on no medication at 81...too bad her brain is going, she takes such good care of herself...this kinda scares me as far as taking care of her.

Well, I could go on & on about my nephew's going off to college-but I'm getting tired of typing...

oh, I got pretty bedsheets from the hallway :)

He's Alive?

Why did I think Mark Spitz was dead?
LOL! I was pretty surprised this morning to see him on tv.
What a hunk! Can you imagine how fast he would be swimming now in
one of those high-tech suits?!
Fatigue has been my middle name since moving here, that is for sure-
People are up all times of the night-children playing tag at midnight while the adults wait for the bus,
others being dropped off at 2am & yacking happily...then it all starts again at 4am.
Oh yes, I have ear plugs-the orange ones used for shooting! But after a while they kill my ears & cause
earaches. So I end up sleeping till 8:30 in the morning & drag myself through another day.
How am I supposed to work like this?
My sister defined it as a "quality of life" issue. I know one day I will move on- but man
it is doing a number on my health!
Yesterday I drove mom around, today rest & grocery shopped, tomorrow I visit dad.
They are power washing the sidewalks outside *sigh* I wish I had a "bubble of quiet"
around my apartment...
Black woman to me last evening- "You got a cat in there?" Somebody told me there was someone
walking a cat on a leash and I told them they were outta they mind!"LOL!

Sixty Thousand

Thank you all for the sixty thousand hits...
Ones I have gotten to know, and ones who hide and read.
May every good thing happen to you today.
Love always,

Opening Ceremony

Spectacular,Jaw Dropping, Stunning,Mesmerizing---

A HUGE LED screen that would roll up. 2008 people

who would drum and dance in perfect synchronization.

The circumference of the stadium was a projection screen.

I was blown away by the technology and man power.

There has never, and will never, be another opening

ceremony like that again!

I wrote that last night....

The way I felt kept waking me last night-anxious to hit "send" today.

But then I turned on the news and saw the parents of an athlete

were killed....and I felt bad, but not only for the family but for the

Chinese because they are trying SO hard.

Block Party?

Well, a block party was scheduled for today 1-3pm. So I went out my door to find a gaggle of women gathering from my floor to go so we all went together. It took awhile to catch an elevator because it kept showing up full-but we finally got over to the gathering. We got in line ant the skies turned dark...the slooooow line puttered along for a half hour and we were almost there when the skies opened up! Akk, we 'ran inside...then it stopped, ran out-and found ourselves at the end of the line again.. Crazy! Finally we got our dumb hamburger & fries and went inside. The poor DJ had a tough time with his gear getting wet, and the raffle ticket sellers also- My feet were/are killing me, but it was very fun yapping with the people there. It was the first time I didn't feel like an outsider. After the craziness of raffles being called outside, then inside as the rain poured & quit- It was time to go back to our floor where everyone was hanging out their doors & talking... It was great to get to know everyone :D

China 2008

I really don't feel good about the Olympics in China at all-
as a matter a fact I feel a combination of sadness for the displaced people who had their homes bulldozed,
people enslaved to build all these insane buildings for this event, a government still not allowing their people to speak out about this--
and a strange foreboding fear of undefined danger there.
Our tv stations here are showing all the just built buildings and new highways/subways... making it look all
cotton candy and rainbows- when all I see is deception and mirrors.
The athletes have to wear masks and are forbidden to have 'blackberries' or other internet available items-
...pollution and disease, and keeping their people from speaking....
I just don't have the excitement of past games.

I have a difficult time expressing myself intelligently about all this-
but I feel quite strongly about it..

Dragons Day Out~last friday

Next time we are definitely inviting another dragon :)

First we ate Buffalo Wings & dinner- She had a gift certificate & we ate the whole amount!

Plovers-                                                    Arctic Tern-

Got someone to snap our picture, then off for ice cream & Monk Parrots-

dragonsday08 005  dragonsday08 009

I was so nervous about going that I ended up leaving late & had about 7 close calls! When I got there my heart was racing from the crazy traffic-LOL! It was a very cool thing to do-meet someone you have gotten to know after all these years, but never met. For me it was like having a favorite book you pick up & read and envision the characters in your mind...it was fun to finally have the story come alive!
